The Leeway Foundation is accepting applications for its 2018 Transformation Award, an annual award program that provides unrestricted awards of $15,000 to women and trans artists living in the Delaware Valley region who create art for social change and have been doing so for the past five years or more.
The award is unrestricted (not project-based) and open to women and trans* people working in any art form, traditional or nontraditional. (The foundation uses the term “trans as an umbrella term encompassing transsexual, transgender, genderqueer, Two-Spirit people, and more generally anyone whose gender identity or gender expression is nonconforming and/or different from their gender assigned at birth.)
The foundation encourages applications from women or trans artists who create art for social change that impacts a larger group, audience, or community; have been creating art for social change for the past five years or more and have demonstrated a long-term commitment to this work; have financial need and limited or no access to other financial resources; and have lived for the past two or more years in the Delaware Valley region (Bucks, Camden, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, or Philadelphia counties).
Applying for an award is a two-stage process.
Stage 1: Open to all eligible participants, applications are due no later than May 15, 2018. A panel of community-based artists will review applications and make decisions to invite applicants to submit work samples for Stage 2.
Stage 2: By invitation only. All invited applicants from Stage 1 will receive an application stipend to help cover the costs of preparing work samples. In addition to the stipend, the foundation will offer each applicant support through in-person meetings and application feedback, as needed. The Stage 2 deadline will be announced to finalists only.
