Franklin Theater
6:00–7:30 pm
Join the Franklin Institute for an important and insightful conversation around the national opioid crisis, and learn some of the innovative ways researchers are hoping to battle it. The Franklin Institute’s Chief Bioscientist Dr. Jayatri Das welcomes Dr. Yasmin Hurd, a prominent neurobiologist who studies the brain chemistry of addiction and the viability of a solution that brings its own challenges—cannabis.
Dr. Hurd, the director of the Addiction Institute at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, is among a small number of scientists in the U.S. authorized to study cannabis. With medical marijuana now legal in many states including PA, NJ, and DE, what is the potential of this novel approach to curb cravings for heroin and other opioids, prevent relapse, and combat addiction?
